These parties have been taking a toll on me and that has made me lose interest in preparing Christmas goodies these days I only bake the date and walnut cake. In the good old days I used to prepare quite a few varieties and you can see some of them in the photo.. What's your story?

It does take time and effort to bake the loads of goodies! Now my daughter enjoys the baking - she can take over for me . I did get a mixer a couple years ago . . . I will make an effort this year to make a variety of cookies during winter.

@allknowing Oh yah, that is A LOT of work . . . I don't know how you do it every year (but you do and it makes many people happy you did that for them).

It's the story with everyone. I guess we all move towards minimum and much needed with time and growing age. Now, my festival cooking are very reduced. I don't have the same energy level like before. And also my children are grown and they have outgrown few dishes that they relished as children.

For me it is the party that takes a toll. To keep them busy for the whole day - 86 of them is quite a job. And I plan it right from August.

@allknowing Yes, keeping them entertained and engaged for so long would need a lot of things to be planned.

I used to exchange a dozen cookies with six friends. That way I had 84 cookies. When our kids got older we did not do that anymore.

I have never made Christmas candies or pastries. Mike's Mom does though she has scaled back over the past couple of years. It is harder on her at age 91 but she still enjoys making some.

I spend a lot of time planning that party I have each year and that drains me.

@allknowing Since Mike retired we have no more parties to attend to which we are both thankful for. We aren't into that. We gather with family at his Mom's house on Christmas eve. That is enough
