Political Observation:At The Risk of Stating What Should Be Obvious,Smear Campaigns Tend To Backfire

If a candidate or official's political opponents lie like dogs about him (or her) and get busted "red handed" doing it,they ultimately just wind up strengthening/galvanizing said candidate or official's support base.
Do they realize this? I doubt they think much about it when their rage takes hold. It is something I think would be prudent that they ought to think about.

I generally agree with you. I have only seen a smear campaign semi work once; when former NFL player Steve Largent ran for governor of Oklahoma. The guy that did the commercial ended up losing by a landslide, but the damage to Largent was done. Instead, we ended up with the goober, Brad Henry.
