Starting 2024 By Looking Back at 2023

First, I want to wish everyone a joyful, safe, healthy, and happy calendar year 2024. I also want to thank you for another year of reading, commenting on, and questioning my dubious musical tastes here on myLot.
To start the first month of 2024 I’ll spend it looking back at some of the music greats we lost in 2023. I’ll still do the single year-end review that I do after the December obituaries are posted; however, for January, I’m going to wander through the ones I found particularly sad.
So, while you may be thinking the worst music death in 2023 was Sinéad O’Connor or Lisa Marie Presley, you’ll find (if you didn’t know already
) that my weird music world is just a little bit different.
As usual, the first 21 will be alphabetical, followed by the top ten.
For the teaser, here’s Smash Mouth’s big hit (so big even I know it), “All Star.” Lead singer Steve Harwell passed away on September 4, 2023 from liver failure. He was 56.

@LindaOHio — no, I don’t. The only reason I know this is because of its ubiquity in sports during the 2000s.

@FourWalls I know some strange music. Do you know Groove is in the Heart by Dee-Lite? I'm going to post about that.

John Hiatt once sang, “I never looked forward to looking back.”

I guess it’s because I like sports, and they played is so much during sporting events.

Happy New year to you,
