My Rating **** Genre – War/Action Run Time – 91 minutes Certificate – 18R Country – Finland /USA Awards 4 Wins and 4 nominations = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Best action film so far this year for me has to be Sisu, a Finish comedic and violent war film about the final days of the Nazi occupation. Its stars Britain’s Jack Dolan as a sadistic Nazi who leads a desperate bunch of retreating Nazis in war torn Finland. The star of the movie is Aatami Korpi as the rugged old man fighting back for his beloved land, not a fair fight for the Germans it seems. It don’t know much about the German occupation of coastal Scandinavia and I learn very little here, very much a tongue-in-cheek graphic novel approach to the conflict, what really makes this film work. Pretty violent and gruesome at times as our indestructible hero picks off the Nazis one-by-one but comedy always the driver. Some of these movies don’t get the tone right but this is spot on and nails it. The dubbing here on the western DVD/ streaming option surprisingly doesn’t hurt it and so those who don’t like subtitles will be happy here as won’t get to miss a good film yet again because they are too lazy to read then. The film is well-paced at a crisp 90 minutes and engaging all the way to its obvious conclusions.
