We spent four days in Almati, the capital of Kazakhstan. I was keen to see how the zoo animals are kept in freezing winter, when there is snow all around.
The visit is interesting as one can see that the animals who are basically from the tropical climate are kept comfortable in the cold weather. I'm showing a photo of the hippopotamus who is kept in a air-conditioned enclosure where the water is warm and the hippo can live in comfort. Similarly the African Lion is also kept in a heated enclosure but seeing these animals being kept in such surroundings is a good thing. But I do feel that it is a crime to bring the animals from tropical climate to such cold places, I don't think the animals would be too happy but then the other side of the coin is that many people and children can get to see these animals which they will never see. The Almati zoo is a very big zoo but it close at five in the evening.
in winter they are very visitors and most of the animals are kept inside Heated enclosures because they are from the tropical jungles of India and Africa. However there are some animals like the Siberian tiger which thrive in the cold which are allowed to roam around in the snow, all in all, it is an educative experience
