Last night was just a feast being back to the painting palette, or drawing board as they would say. We were welcomed to the first of the 2024 season of fun painting and socializing and then it was eyes down, thinking cap on and brush in hand! 'Kudu' as you see in my painting is derived from the Khoikhoi and seTswana name for this antelope. The Kudu is a species of spiral-horned antelopes (tribe Tragelaphini, family Bovidae) or one of the other very large greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) are common in southern African wildlife reserves, and its HIDE shines a beautiful bluish-gray in the wild. Kudu's (koodoo or koedoe) is one of our country's best buck meats and is used most often for the delicious product - BILTONG - Biltong is a South African classic. which is an air-cured meat immersed in vinegar and spices and allowed to dry till ready. The Hides of the Kudu also fetch a fair price from traders and tourists visiting the area and make for beautiful floor mats. The locals believe that a Kudu is a totem of wisdom. Their beautiful large horns. symbolize “the wisdom of spirits in the air” and are sought after by many a Hunter coming from all over the world. That's my Kudu of Wisdom for you today. Be well
