Another picture I've drawn ready to paint.

Here is another drawing I've done ready to paint. It was very complicated, especially the stair rail and the top of the balcony. I had to measure to get all the prongs in the right place and stuff. I drew the frame round the edge first, measuring 1cm all around and then joining the dots, as it were! After I'd drawn the frame I did the initial arches, then drew in the plant pots that are in a line on the right. I didn't get them properly proportioned, and so they ended up not fitting properly in the space! I didn't want to rub them out, so I actually ended up putting in an extra plant pot than was on the reference photo to fill the gap! Then I drew in the bottom section of the stairs. Before I attempted the stair rail and the higher stairs, I did the balcony and the spindle things on the thing at the top. If anyone knows what it's actually called, please tell me! That was hard because I had to do measuring and I know I haven't got them in exactly the right place, and the spindles or whatever they're called are not the right shape! After that I put edging things on and drew them with a ruler. I did try doing it in freehand first, but it looked stupid! Then I did the stair rail, which involved more measuring, and the stairs. Then I did the space under the stairs, with the door. Then I went back up to the balcony and put in a door and windows that are hiding behind the balcony wall or whatever you want to call it. Then I did the large circular thing in the front left which is surrounded by plant pots. I think it's meant to be an old well. And then I did the large urn with plant in that is next to that. They are not in the right position. They should be lower. But I don't want to rub them out, so they'll have to do. Then it was time for me to go and get my dinner. I think the picture is mainly finished now though. I might do a little bit more to it, but it's basically done. I also did another quick sketch before I did this one which is inspired by one of the pictures in a book that came recently called Acrylics For The Absolute Beginner. I changed elements around so it's similar to, but not exactly like, the picture in the book. I'll paint that picture referring to the demonstration in the book and see how I go with that too. So I might paint one or both of those on Thursday, or parts of them. I will be sure to show you all how I get on. I hope you are all well. Have a great night.

I had to come back and see the start of the painting you just finished. Good drawing, did you find the original in the book or somewhere else? And yes, the spindle-things are called spindles. As for what you'd call the barrier along the edge of the balcony - maybe a palisade?

@sharonelton I think actually a balustrade might be more appropriate. Defined as: a set of posts or a screen to prevent people from falling over the edge of stairs, a balcony, etc., often with a wooden, metal, or stone bar on top that you can hold. Gosh doesn't English have a lot of similar, but not quite the same, words?
