Going Back To KPop

The first and last time I became a KPop fan was when the girl group 2NE1 became popular. I first saw their music video "Fire" and recognized Sandara Park. She and her family moved here to the Philippines from South Korea and she eventually joined a local reality show where she became popular. I remember watching her films and she was also part of a love team involving another actor. As I have not followed her career that much, I was surprised to see her singing and dancing with a Korean group of four. I instantly fell in love with YG Entertainment's latest girl group back then. Sandara and I are the same age and were born in 1984. While she's technically South Korean, we saw her as part Filipino, identified with her, which is why until now in 2024, Filipinos still have much love for her. It would be years later that I would come to love another group again. When my YouTube recommendations showed the girl group Lapillus busking, I immediately thought that they're an interesting group. For the next few months, I started following Stray Kids as well I became very engrossed with their skits and I found them to be a funny and entertaining bunch. Currently,I started following Seventeen, and the global groups Hori7on and UNIS. KPop helped alleviate the stress and frustration of getting laid off and the financial problems I was facing. I took care not to be blinded by it, but instead, used it to give myself a bit of happiness while I continued to find solutions to various daily struggles. While there is an obvious language barrier, it helps that there are those who translate the songs. Subtitles also help me understand the skits. Admittedly, I might start learning Korean if I get to go to South Korea someday. I know that a lot of people are bewildered as to why we are fans of the music and it's completely understandable. The world of Kpop can be truly dazzling to us and the artists alone are enough to make us want to stay.
