Chronic Pain and Grandchildren

A little while ago I was talking to a friend who has bad gout pain. I was telling him how being around other people helps me take my mind off my chronic pain. I do have gout but not as bad as he has it. I know how bad it hurts. It is in his hands as well so that makes an even bigger difference. My gout is controlled but I cannot sit here and judge how much pain he is in. My chronic pain comes from fibromyalgia and arthritis. I did suggest he try getting out of his apartment more and visit with the others to help take his mind off the pain. Tonight when I took my dog out, I was pleased to see him out with a group of people visiting.
Anyhoo...
The conversation with this man made me think of how my pain is reduced when my grandchildren visit me. I can sit alone in my home and watch tv, etc, but the pain I sometimes experience can just overwhelm me. But if one or more of my grandchildren come to visit, a lot of that pain just seems to vanish. It doesn't actually go away. But what happens is that my mind is diverted to a much more pleasant experience, and that is what makes the pain more bearable.
How about you? Does having your grandchildren visit help you with chronic pain>

Yes it does. I always seem to feel better when they come to visit.
