Day 61 – Questions Exodus 13:1 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.” 3 Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand JEHOVAH brought you out of this place. No leavened bread will be eaten. 4 On this day you are going out, in the month Abib. 5 It will be, when JEHOVAH brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you will keep this service in this month. 6 Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there will be a feast to JEHOVAH. 7 You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. No leavened bread will be seen among you, nor will leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. 8 You will tell your son in that day, saying, ‘This is done because of what JEHOVAH did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ 9 It will be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that JEHOVAH’S law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand JEHOVAH has brought you out of Egypt. 10 You will, therefore, keep this ordinance in its season from year to year. 11 It will be, when JEHOVAH brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 that you will set apart to JEHOVAH all that open the womb, that is, every firstborn that comes from an animal which you have; the males shall be JEHOVAH’S. 13 But every firstborn of a donkey you will redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you will break its neck. All the firstborn of man among your sons you will redeem. 14 So it will be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you will say to him, ‘By strength of hand JEHOVAH brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 15 It happened, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that JEHOVAH killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to JEHOVAH all males that open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It will be as a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand JEHOVAH brought us out of Egypt.” 17 Then it happened, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that Elohiym did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although it was near; for Elohiym said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 Elohiym led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. The children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt. 19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, “Elohiym will surely visit you, and you will carry up my bones from here with you.” 20 They took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21 JEHOVAH went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people. God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Mighty God God’s character: Instructor Leader Whenever you start something new, you have questions. You want to know every detail about what you plan to do, and you want to know why you’re doing it. JEHOVAH anticipated Israel’s questions and told Moses what to say to His people when they asked certain questions. He also instructed Moses to set aside the firstborn male of man and beast, they would be holy to JEHOVAH. Then Elohiym led them in the wilderness in the way He wanted them to go to keep them from turning back to Egypt. JEHOVAH went before them as a fire by night and a cloud by day, leading them to the Promised Land, He swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, a land flowing with milk and honey. When JEHOVAH calls you to His service, do you ask questions? Or do you blindly do what He calls you to do? Christians have been called blind because of their blind devotion to Elohiym. You don’t question, you only do. JEHOVAH anticipated Israel’s questions and gave Moses the answers to give them. JEHOVAH doesn’t expect you to blindly go where He calls you. He expects your questions so He can instruct you in the work He calls you to do. You need to plan for the work. You cannot plan when you don’t know what or how you’re supposed to do the work. Once you have your instructions, Elohiym will lead you and direct you in how you’re to do His work. JEHOVAH will be your fire by night and cloud by day when you do His work and allow Him to lead. JEHOVAH set apart the firstborn of Israel, man, and beast. When you accepted Him as Savior and Lord, He redeemed you. You became His firstborn, set apart for Him for His service. He promised to lead you through your life until you reach your Promised Land, heaven. You don’t know the way, but He does. Along the way, ask questions, let Him instruct you. When He asks you to do His work, ask questions so you know how you’re to fulfill the task He gives you. Don’t let your service to Elohiym be blind service. Ask questions. He will instruct and lead you. Let’s pray: Father, I have many questions about the work You gave me. Help me to ask the questions and listen for the answers and instructions for the task You gave me. Lead me through my life’s journey with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Let me know You are always with me to guide me and instruct me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
