A Over bridge

Till five years back there was a large;open ground just in front of my house. There were some bushes and small trees in the ground.Children would play football and other sports there.Herds of cows would graze there and sit under the trees. Now all that has gone. The municipality has decided to build a over bridge there that would help people to cross the railway tracks that part the main town and a small market in the other part of the town. The work has started.Big mascines have occupied the ground. All day we hear the sounds of JCBs and other maschines. Within a few months we will see a long over bridge there. There will not be any open space or trees or bushes and peace.

There is a tendency to build more links these days, to improve connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists and reduce the use of cars. There are lots of infrastructure projects in my area too, unfortunately there is no provision to restore these green spaces and play areas elsewehere. Having a construction site under your house must be really annoying.

@Shivram59 They should, sometimes they just compensate for the green areas lost by creating a park or planting trees after the development has been constructed, or create a new park nearby. The local authority usually asks for the protection of these areas before giving permission of the works. Maybe there is a plan for that at a later stage?

@besweet I agree with you.Improving infrastructure and connectivity is necessary;but saving greenary is also essential. Can't development and protection of nature go hand in hand??

@besweet No;there is no such plan so far as I know. They could have saved the trees had they constructed the bridge from only 10 meters behind.

I guess the bridge was much needed, it's such a pity to remove all that greenery. And the cows, so adorable.

@sabtraversa It was needed;but it could have built much behind where it is being constructed now.I have talked to the engineers. They agree with me;but they were under pressure from their seniors and the member of legislative assembly of our constituency. The greenery could be saved.
