Day 70 – Consequences Exodus 22:1 “If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he will restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep. 2 If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there will be no guilt for his bloodshed. 3 If the sun has risen on him, there will be guilt for his bloodshed. He should make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he will be sold for his theft. 4 If the theft is certainly found alive in his hand, whether it is an ox or donkey or sheep, he will restore double. 5 “If a man causes a field or vineyard to be grazed, and lets loose his animal, and it feeds in another man’s field, he will make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard. 6 “If fire breaks out and catches in thorns, so that stacked grain, standing grain, or the field is consumed, he who kindled the fire will make restitution. 7 “If a man delivers money or articles to his neighbor to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house, if the thief is found, he will pay double. 8 If the thief is not found, then the master of the house will be brought to the judges to see whether he put his hand into his neighbor’s goods. 9 For any kind of trespass, whether it concerns an ox, a donkey, a sheep, or clothing, or for any kind of lost thing which another claims as his, the cause of both parties will come before the judges; and whomever the judges condemn will pay double to his neighbor. 10 “If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies, is hurt, or driven away, no one seeing it, 11 then an oath of JEHOVAH will be between them, that he did not put his hand into his neighbor’s goods; and the owner of it will accept it, and he will not make it good. 12 But if, in fact, it is stolen from him, he will make restitution to the owner of it. 13 “If it is torn to pieces by a beast, then he will bring it as evidence, and he will not make good what was torn. 14 “If a man borrows anything from his neighbor, and it becomes injured or dies, the owner of it not being with it, he will make it good. 15 If its owner was with it, he will not make it good; if it was hired, it came for its hire. 16 “If a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he will pay the bride-price for her to be his wife. 17 If her father refuses to give her to him, he will pay money according to the bride-price of virgins. 18 “You shall not permit a sorceress to live. 19 “Whoever lies with an animal will be put to death. 20 "He who sacrifices to any elohiym, except to JEHOVAH only, he will be destroyed. 21 “You will neither mistreat a stranger nor oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. 22 “You will not afflict any widow or fatherless child. 23 If you afflict them in any way, and they cry to Me, I will hear their cry; 24 and My wrath will become hot, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will be widows, and your children fatherless. 25 “If you lend money to any of My people who are poor among you, you will not be like a moneylender to him; you will not charge him interest. 26 If you ever take your neighbor’s garment as a pledge, you will return it to him before the sun goes down. 27 For it is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What will he sleep in? It will be that when he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am gracious. 28 “You will not revile Elohiym, nor curse a ruler of your people. 29 “You will not delay offering the first of your ripe produce and your juices. The firstborn of your sons you will give to Me. 30 Likewise, you will do with your oxen and your sheep. It will be with its mother seven days; on the eighth day you will give it to Me. 31 “You will be holy men to Me: you will not eat meat torn by beasts in the field; you will throw it to the dogs. God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Mighty God Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Gracious Judge Mashiyach – Savior Lord – Master You can’t go a day without hearing bad news about how people treat one another. They lie, steal, kill, and disobey every commandment Elohiym gave Moses. They don’t think about the consequences of their actions, only what they can get to make their life easier. Yet, it doesn’t bring ease, but judgment. You see the consequences of bad behavior. Elohiym doesn’t pardon sin or condone it. He judges it and finds the person who committed the crime guilty and sentences the person to death or lays restitution on the person who committed the crime. Elohiym’s first commandment not to have any other elohiym before Him bears a heavy consequence. JEHOVAH promises to destroy the person who sacrifices to any elohiym beside Himself. With the consequences laid before them, you would think the Israelites would do their best to honor Elohiym and their neighbor and not bring judgment on themselves. Israel’s history proves otherwise. As Christians, are you any better than the Israelites Elohiym gave His commandments and laws to? Don’t you do what you can to get ahead by any means possible? Don’t your actions imitate the world more than they show Elohiym’s love? JEHOVAH gave His laws and commandments not because He wanted to bring judgment on His people, but to show them how much He loved them. When you instruct your children in obedience, teaching them right from wrong, you do it because you love them and want to see them prosper as people of integrity. Elohiym wants the same for His people. He wants the same for you. He never gave His law to Moses to see how often He could bring His consequences to them, but to show them how much He loved them and wanted them to prosper. Many people look at Elohiym’s law and sees the ‘shalt nots’ and consequences. They miss His love. When you obeyed your parents, they showered you with love and blessings. When you disobeyed, you suffered the consequences. Elohiym is a loving Father, who only wants the best for His children. You are His child if you accepted Yeshuwa as your Mashiyach and Lord. You committed your life to Him. Don’t allow Satan to cause you to sin against Him and bring His consequences on you for wrong behavior. When you disobey Elohiym, He has no option but to bring His consequences on you. Your only out is to ask His forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV) JEHOVAH promises to forgive when you confess your sins to Him. Don’t let Satan deceive you into believing your sin is unforgiveable and not ask for forgiveness. Elohiym wants to forgive you. You only need to come to Him with a humble heart, submissive to Him, and He will forgive you. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your laws which show me my sin. Give me an obedient heart so that I will know Your blessings and not the consequences of wrong behavior. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Yes, He can and will. You only need to ask Him to forgive your sin.
