Day 76 – Robes of Righteousness Exodus 28:1 “Now take Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister to Me as priest, Aaron, and Aaron’s sons: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 2 You will make holy garments for Aaron, your brother, for glory and for beauty. 3 You will speak to all who are gifted artisans, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest. 4 These are the garments which they will make: a breastplate, an ephod, a robe, a skillfully woven tunic, a turban, and a sash. They will make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons, that he may minister to Me as priest. 5 “They will take the gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, 6 and make the ephod of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, artistically worked. 7 It will have two shoulder straps joined at its two edges and joined together. 8 The intricately woven band of the ephod, which is on it, will be of the same workmanship, made of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen. 9 “Then you will take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel: 10 six of their names on one stone, and six names on the other stone, in order of their birth. 11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, you will engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You will set them in settings of gold. 12 You will put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron will bear their names before JEHOVAH on his two shoulders as a memorial. 13 You will also make settings of gold, 14 and you will make two chains of pure gold like braided cords and fasten the braided chains to the settings. 15 “You will make the breastplate of judgment. Artistically woven according to the workmanship of the ephod you will make it: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, you will make it. 16 It will be doubled into a square: a span will be its length, and a span will be its width. 17 You will put settings of stones in it, four rows of stones. The first row will be a sardius, a topaz, and an emerald; this shall be the first row; 18 the second row will be a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond; 19 the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They will be set in gold settings. 21 The stones will have the names of the sons of Israel, twelve according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, each one with its own name; they will be according to the twelve tribes. 22 “You will make chains for the breastplate at the end, like braided cords of pure gold. 23 You will make two rings of gold for the breastplate and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate. 24 Then you will put the two braided chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate; 25 and the other two ends of the two braided chains you will fasten to the two settings and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod in the front. 26 You will make two rings of gold and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, on the edge of it, which is on the inner side of the ephod. 27 Two other rings of gold you will make, and put them on the two shoulder straps, underneath the ephod toward its front, right at the seam above the intricately woven band of the ephod. 28 They will bind the breastplate by means of its rings to the rings of the ephod, using a blue cord, so that it is above the intricately woven band of the ephod, and so that the breastplate does not come loose from the ephod. 29 Aaron will bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment over his heart, when he goes into the holy place, as a memorial before JEHOVAH continually. 30 You will put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they will be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before JEHOVAH. Aaron will bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before JEHOVAH continually. 31 “You will make the robe of the ephod blue. 32 There will be an opening for his head in the middle of it; it will have a woven binding all around its opening, like the opening in a coat of mail, so it does not tear. 33 Upon its hem you will make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, around its hem, and bells of gold between them all around: 34 a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell, and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe all around. 35 It will be upon Aaron when he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he goes into the holy place before JEHOVAH and when he comes out, that he dies not. 36 “You will also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO JEHOVAH. 37 You will put it on a blue cord, that it may be on the turban; it will be on the front of the turban. 38 It will be on Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel hallow in all their holy gifts; and it will always be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before JEHOVAH. 39 You will skillfully weave the tunic of fine linen thread, you will make the turban of fine linen, and you will make the sash of woven work. 40 “For Aaron’s sons you will make tunics, and you will make sashes for them. You will make hats for them, for glory and beauty. 41 You will put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him. You will anoint them, consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister to Me as priests. 42 You will make for them linen trousers to cover their nakedness; they will reach from the waist to the thighs. 43 They will be on Aaron and on his sons when they come into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister in the holy place, that they do not incur iniquity and die. It will be a statute forever to him and his descendants after him. God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Clothing designer People have always been interested in fashion. They flock to fashion shows, pour over fashion magazines, and look for their favorite name brands in the stores they favor. Fashion can be found everywhere including the garments worn by church clergy. You don’t think about JEHOVAH as a fashion designer, yet when it comes to what the priests wore in the temple, and particularly the high priest, He didn’t leave out a single detail. JEHOVAH told Moses who would wear the clothing, what colors to use for the clothing, what stones to use for the breastplate, how it would be woven, and how each piece layered on the other. He also told Moses how the priest would enter the Holy of Holies so they wouldn’t die when they entered by putting pomegranates and bells around the hem. He didn’t leave out a single detail, including the undergarments the priests wore when they entered the Holy of Holies to perform the work of the tabernacle, and the turban on his head. Everything he wore gave glory and honor to JEHOVAH. Each piece of clothing also had a significant role to play when the priest entered the tabernacle. The high priest had two stones on his shoulders with the names of the tribes of Israel on each, six on each stone. In doing so, he carried the burden of Israel on his shoulders. The breastplate had twelve stones, one for each of the tribes set in four rows of three stones each set with gold settings; carried over his heart. The blue ephod was one piece woven without seams. The priest wore a linen robe beneath the ephod which went to his feet. JEHOVAH clothed every part of the priest from his head to his feet, yet his feet remained bare. Now consider Yeshuwa’s clothing. Every picture you see of Him shows Him with a white robe and a blue garment over the robe. The blue garment was woven seamlessly so it could not be torn. It was this garment the soldiers gambled for at Yeshuwa’s crucifixion. Consider also Yeshuwa carried the weight of your sin on His shoulders. He also carries you close to His heart. As the priests carried the names of the twelve tribes of Israel on the breastplate, He knows your name, and carries you over His heart. From Yeshuwa’s head to His feet He is clothed with glory and honor. When He died on Calvary’s cross, His death clothed you in His righteousness so you could stand before Him unblemished. His blood purified you and made you holy, set apart for Him. Now you wear the fashion of heaven, robes of righteousness. When JEHOVAH sees you, He sees you as the best dressed among the saints. You wear His clothing, designed by Him for you. Are you clothed in robes of righteousness? Have you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord? If not, JEHOVAH can clothe you in His best robes. You only need to accept what Yeshuwa did for you by taking your sin on His shoulders and purifying you from all guilt by His blood. You can stand before JEHOVAH in His best dressed robes. Revelation 19:8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. (NKJV) Let’s pray: Father, I come before you with guilt and shame as my clothing. Purify me with the blood of Your Son, Yeshuwa, cleanse me of my guilt, and clothe me in Your robes of righteousness as I accept Your Son as my Savior and Lord. In Yeshuwa’s name, I pray. Amen. I suppose one can find nuanced meaning in clothing, even to this day.
