Day 80 – Cleansing
Exodus 30:17 Then JEHOVAH spoke to Moses, saying, 18 “You will also make a laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You will put it between the tabernacle of the meeting and the altar. You will put water in it, 19 for Aaron and his sons will wash their hands and their feet in water from it. 20 When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to JEHOVAH, they will wash with water, lest they die. 21 So they will wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. It will be a statute forever to them—to him and his descendants throughout their generations.”
God’s name:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Theos – Mighty God
Iesous – Jesus
God’s character:
Cleansing
Mashiyach – Savior
Lord – Master
Christos – Messiah, Anointed One
Many denominational churches have baptism fonts to baptize infants and people who want to become clean through baptism. Other churches use a tub or the river to fully immerse themselves in water to show they are clean from the stain of sin on their lives.
JEHOVAH instructed Moses to construct a basin to wash the hands and feet of the priest so they would not appear before Him dirty and bring death on them.
During the Last Supper Yeshuwa took a basin and towel and washed the disciples’ feet.
John 13:3 Iesous, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from Theos and was going to Theos, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
8 Peter said to Him, “You will never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”
11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore, He said, “You are not all clean.”
When you accept Iesous as your Mashiyach and Lord, you want to express your salvation to the world through the cleansing power of baptism. You want everyone to know what Iesous did for you the moment you accepted what He did on the cross for you.
The priests not only washed their hands and feet in the water from the laver, but they also had the blood of bulls and goats covering them when they sacrificed the sin offering for the people.
The water prepared them for the sacrifice, in the same way the water prepared you for the moment you accepted the blood of Iesous that cleansed you from your sins.
When you stand before Theos, He sees the blood covering you and knows you stand before Him clean from every stain of guilt, shame, and sin. He sees your cleansing by water and the blood and declares you not guilty.
When you wash yourself daily with the Word of Theos, reading and understanding the power given to you through the Word, then you know the cleansing power of Iesous Christos in your salvation. You will wash yourself daily, not only once through baptism, but daily for a fresh cleansing and knowledge about what Iesous has for you.
Let JEHOVAH wash you in the Word and cleanse you from your sin.
Let’s pray: Father, wash me in Your Word. Let me know the cleansing power of Your Word in my life. Let me know I am covered in the blood of Iesous and stand before You without guilt because of what Your Son did on the cross. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
