Day 85 – Glory and Presence Exodus 33:1 Then JEHOVAH said to Moses, “Depart and go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give it.’ 2 I will send My Malak before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 3 Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.” 4 When the people heard this bad news, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments. 5 For JEHOVAH had said to Moses, “Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I could come up into your midst in one moment and consume you. Now, therefore, take off your ornaments, so that I may know what to do to you.’” 6 So the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb. 7 Moses took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of meeting. It happened that everyone who sought JEHOVAH went out to the tabernacle of meeting which was outside the camp. 8 So it was, whenever Moses went out to the tabernacle, the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Moses until he had gone into the tabernacle. 9 It happened, when Moses entered the tabernacle, the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and JEHOVAH talked with Moses. 10 The people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and they rose and worshiped, each man in his tent door. 11 JEHOVAH spoke to Moses face-to-face, as a man speaks to his friend. He would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle. 12 Then Moses said to JEHOVAH, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and I may find grace in Your sight. And consider this nation is Your people.” 14 He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? We will be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.” 17 JEHOVAH said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” 18 He said, “Please, show me Your glory.” 19 Then He said, “I will make My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of JEHOVAH before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man will see Me, and live.” 21 JEHOVAH said, “Here is a place by Me, and you will stand on the rock. 22 It will be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you will see My back; but My face you will not see.” God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Malak – Angel, Messenger Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Goodness Glory Gracious Presence When you do something, you don’t want to do it alone. You want to know whether the person who proposed the project will work with you, and that he will be with you to the end. JEHOVAH told Moses He wouldn’t go before them because they were a stiff-necked people. When the people learned what JEHOVAH said about them, they took off their ornaments and waited until Moses spoke further with JEHOVAH. They watched as Moses set apart the Tabernacle of the congregation away from the people. They saw the pillar of cloud descend onto the Tabernacle when JEHOVAH spoke with Moses face-to-face, and they worshiped JEHOVAH at their tent doors. They watched everything that happened between JEHOVAH and Moses. Moses told JEHOVAH, that if He didn’t go with them, not to bring them to the Promised Land. Then Moses asked JEHOVAH to show him His glory. JEHOVAH told Moses to stand in the cleft of the rock and He would pass by and proclaim His name, and show him His presence and His glory, but he would not show him His face. Would you make a bargain with JEHOVAH? Would you ask to see His presence in your life, to see His glory so you would know He is with you in everything He called you to do for Him? Many Christians pray for JEHOVAH to be with them, lead them, guide them, and show them the way they need to go, but when they finish praying, they proceed as though JEHOVAH wasn’t with them. They don’t believe the prayer they prayed. JEHOVAH told Moses He would send His Malak before them to show them the way, but He would not go with them. It frightened the children of Israel when they learned that JEHOVAH wouldn’t go with them. They mourned and stripped off their ornaments. What would you do if JEHOVAH told you He wouldn’t go with you to lead you along the path He chose for you? Would you mourn? Would you strip off everything you gained in the world, and appear before Him naked of all worldly possessions? Would you ask Him to show you His presence and glory? No, many Christians wouldn’t know what to do and many would walk away from Him and try to do life without Him. That’s not what JEHOVAH wants from you. He wants to show you His presence and glory. He wants to hide you in the Rock and let His Son, Yeshuwa lead you. JEHOVAH wants to know what you will do to have His presence in your life. Are you ready to ask JEHOVAH to show you His presence and glory? Are you ready to have Yeshuwa lead you to the Promised Land, eternal life? What are you willing to do to have JEHOVAH in your life? Moses stood in the cleft of the rock and saw JEHOVAH’S presence pass by him. He heard JEHOVAH proclaim His name. He saw JEHOVAH’S goodness and glory. It’s time to ask JEHOVAH to show you His presence and glory. It’s time to strip away your worldly possessions and stand in His presence ready for Him to lead you. He will go before you if you ask Him and trust Him to go before you. Let’s pray: Father, I don’t want to go through this life without You leading the way. Show me Your presence and glory as I strip away all worldly possessions that keep You from me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 12 April 2024 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.
