I am planning to cook a Chinese dish called Mapo Tofu. I suddenly crave having some. My colleagues and I used to order it in a Chinese restaurant in China before. It was really a spicy one. But I am making it a little spicy because I am not really a fan of it. I watched a video on how to make it, and it was not that complicated. Are you into spicy food?

Yes, I don't mind very spicy Mapo Tofu when it comes with rice. It'd be impossible to have it on its own. I like the warmth and peace of mind spicy food gives me once I'm done eating.

When I cooked it, I had some sweet yellow mangoes as a side dish. In this way, I can remove the spicy taste if it is too hot while eating with rice.

@sabtraversa Usually we can use sweets to neutralize the spicy taste.

I have not tried the spicy noodles version from Singapore. Some people claimed that Kim Chi was too spicy, but it was not. I am not sure if Map Tofu is available in our Chinatown.

The soul of Mapo Dofu is not spicy but pungent. It comes from Chinese pepper or called Sichuan pepper. Think about the numbing of your tongue after you finish Mapo Dofu --one of the most famous dishes from Sichuan province. Many other provinces are more spicy than Sichuan. Hope you can have a try about all of them. I believe it must have a strong reason if it lasts for hundreds of years.

I read some stories how it was originated in China. Most of online Chinese students claimed that it is from Sichuan. I do hope the different ways of doing it in China in the future.

I cannot wait to cook it. I might do it on Friday. I need to buy the ingredients first. In my place, we cannot buy the tofus. When I was in Hong Kong, I have not tried to order this. Although we do it in Guangdong province in China before.

Actually this dish is from Sichuan Province and it is not only spicy, but also numb. It is not very difficult to make it. As there are some mapo tofu jam and you just need it mix it with tofu.

I asked my Chinese student how to do it, and I took note to use Lao Gan Ma to make it less spicy. It turned out to be a good Chinese dish served on the table.
