A lot of the reason that the employess don't care is the way we're treated by management. The other reason is the way we're treated by the customers. Customers tend to treat us like crap because we work at Wal-Mart - they act like they're better than us. And let me tell you - Sundays are the WORST! It's like people go to church and then they feel like they can be obnoxious since they've 'gotten in good with God' for the week.

That is awful. You would think people would go to church and then practice what they heard.

I've heard all of those things before. It aggravates me when I go to Walmart and see the price has gone up again on something I regularly buy. Every so often I may see a price go down, but notice the price has gone up on something else. I think all they do is rollback the price on one item and increase it on another.
It's a shame it's not the business it was when Sam Walton had it. His kids seem to be more interested in money. Sad.

The way they treat the employees, the way the force companies to give them such a good deal on products that it often puts some out of business...things like that. It's not the company that Sam Walton started anymore. They've strayed away from caring about the people who work for them and the people who shop from them. All they care about is making money. A good documentry to watch to touch more on all the reasons I hate them is "The High Cost of Low Prices". Very informative. I watched it and kept saying "I told you" to my husband.

Well the prices are hard to beat and there's always a good selection, but the crowds suck, and it almost seems like the customer's there are worse than anywhere else.
The last time I went, I went to pick up bandaids, but ended up grabbing a few more things, so I went to grab a basket and this couple rushes up to the stack of baskets before me and I think, "How nice, they're going to grab me a basket so I don't drop everything!", but they didn't. They grabbed their own and walked away.
My mom used to be the seasonal and garden department manager at the store in her town, and she got treated like garbage, even hurt herself quite badly and had to go on medical leave and when she wanted to transfer departments to something not quite so stressful they kept turning her down for junior employees. Her best friend ran Pets, and when she asked for a raise was turned down, despite the fact that she's been with Walmart since they bought Woolworth's out here.

That is such a shame too! It's sick that the company doesn't treat it's employees with that much respect. If only they'd learn that if they take care of us - we'll in turn take care of them.

Oh - and the reason our prices are hard to beat is because they force companies to give them a cheaper deal on their products. And some have even gone out of business because of it!

When I lived in a small town in the midwest, Wal-Mart was pretty much our only option for a lot of basic household needs--they were too expensive to buy at the grocery store.
When we moved to Seattle, one of the first things I was concerned about was that the nearest Wal-Mart was 20-30 miles away! We drove down there, and it was crowded, loud, and filled with obnoxious managers and some rude employees as well. After we got what we needed, I decided we weren't going back to that one.
We found another Wal-Mart that is better, but it's over 2 hours away, and involves a $20 ferry ride. Not really worth it. Luckily, I have discovered other options in the meantime. :)
Wal-Mart is good for the super cheap Sam's brand stuff, but other than that, I don't really like it. I know the employees are treated poorly, and I'd rather not support that if I can help it.

LOL - thanks :)
It's a shame though there isn't a closer one to you - since you liked it :)
Some of their name brand stuff I like and others I don't. Like their canned food and drinks.

Yep. That's one of the many reasons I don't like the company. You rarely see Mom & Pop stores in the area they invade.

In my area, I have not found any Walmart stores. However, there are a couple of Walgreen's stores around. It seems that Walmart is the few stores that actually have unionized employees. That should say something is not quite right, because of the fact that a labor union is needed to keep management in line.
They have come up in the news about lawsuits by various groups of employees against them. There is at least one cashier right here on MyLot in which started a discussion ranting about them. She got sick, & was told tht she had better be in despite being contagious, & not well enough to even be out of bed. She took the time off anyway, & was written up for an 'unexcused absence' despite a doctor's note.

Oh yeah - they don't care. Though if it's a real medical thing I'd like to see them try to fire a person and get away with it - for call ins.

I just recently quit working there after 7 years of dedicated service. I needed to change my shift from third to first and they wouldn't let me because I wouldn't work first and second. They only want people now with 'open availability'.

I think my sister in law does. She got very upset when our mother in laws blood pressure prescription couldn't be filled after days of promises. The fact that the pharmacist refused to transfer the prescription didn't help matters. What really lit her fuse was when waiting on their turn, they heard a much older customer getting the same run around on the same prescription. The lady had taken a cab to walmart to get her prescription after being promised it would be in. My sister in law reported the pharmasist & refuses to shop there since my brother in law had to go in & demand that the prescription be transfered to CVS. It was quite a scene from what I heard. ;)

I have this love/hate relationship with Walmart. I think it's more hate than love though.
Love......They seem to have the best prices around...I never know what I might find when I go there, they have good deals on items that I don't always find in other stores...I know where everything is in our Walmart so I can zoom in and out withouth hunting things down.
Hate.....The store is always dirty, always!.....Half of the shopping carts need to be destroyed and replaced with new ones...There are never any sales people around when I have a question....Never enough cash registers open, so the checkout lines are long.....Cashiers are not friendly, makes me wonder why they work there....There are always boxes in the middle of the isles with merchandise that needs to be put up.....The isles are to tight, it's hard for 2 carts to go down the same isle in the opposite directions.

LOL - I know exactly what you mean. Except our store isn't dirty. Thankfully. But everything else is true. Especially about some of our aisles being so narrow since we did our remodel last year. It's ridiculous.
The company has just really gone down hill in recent years. Our management has gotten worse and made it an unpleasant place to work. Unfortunately a lot of times it's hard for some to find other jobs too.
But I'm about to leave that place. I'm searching for a new job and have sent several resumes out. I am thinking of putting in my two weeks 'cause I have about two weeks vacation time too. That would give me four weeks to find another job. I've already decided that if I have to I'm going to a employment agency anyway. So I just might put it in tomorrow. I so want to.
