What unique traditions does your family have, and how did they start?

Often then not, most of us have unique traditions. Some which have started from family and some which could have started from home. For me, we have one from home, where we have our breakfast, lunch and dinner together and almost at the same time everyday. We discuss things (could range from tv to international) over food. so, what unique traditions does your family have, and how did they start?

I am the matriarch of my family, and we all live in separate states now. Our most practiced tradition these days is to call each other on birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays.
