Do You Take Risks or Play It Safe?

Do you consider yourself a risk-taker? If so, why and what sort of risks do you take? What traits would you use to describe a risk-taker? Have you ever been hurt or harmed anyone else by the risks you have taken? If you aren’t a risk-taker, is there a particular reason for this? Please discuss this issue.

Yes adventure are fine and so are taking small risks, but nothing potentially life threatening, otherwise play it safe. I am pleased that you enjoyed the topic rosebug. Thanks for responding to the discussion. :)

I guess it depends on the risk. What is a risk to some, isn't so much risk to others. For example, if you know a lot about the stock market and you risk a little to make a lot then it is not so much a risk to you as it is to someone who knows nothing at all about it and takes the risk. I tend to play it safe rather than take risks unless I know a lot about what I plan to take a risk on.

I think you have hit the nail on the head caribe in that if you know what the risks are, then you can make a decision based on that knowledge. Sometimes it is better to play it safe though. Thanks very much for contribution to the discussion.

yes i do.... its simple,i take risks bcoz i wanna explore myself and see whether i can do thigs which i am afraid of or i dont believe in or i dont like to do or where ther are 50:50 chances of winning..... it makes things more exciting in life....... and ya i am a adventurous person... and i do take risk when my loved ones are in danger..but i am cautious when it comes 2 my family........ i dont take risks by which ther name gets spoiled... ther are many when i have been hurt and when i have harmed others........

I think it is good that you take care with your family and their name, because to harm other people is not really good. Thanks very much for responding. :)

I try to take things on a case by case basis. I am not afraid to take a chance sometimes, but when things are more important to me I will most often choose to stay safe. One big exception to this was last fall when I decided to resign a good paying job (with a terrible boss) because I felt like I was losing too much time with my husband and little boy. I had zero other income prospects and we weren't totally certain that the family could make it on just my husband's income, but I made the leap. Things have certainly been tight at times since, which is why I keep actively seeking online income opportunities that aren't scams!, but I have found part time and freelance work to bring some money in and my husband has increased his income and things are going just fine. And, most impportant, I have time with my four year old son that is precious to me.

I think that the risk you took when you decided to resign from your job was well worth it, because now you can spend more time with your son. Also as you are finding there are some other ways that you can add extra income to the family budget. I am pleased that the "gamble" paid off for you and your family tentwo67. I would have to say that I am not completely keen on taking risks and tend to stay in my comfort zone at this stage in my life. Why, because I do not take failure very well and have been known to come down very hard on myself in the past. Guess one could say that I do not have good self-esteem but work very hard to try and gain it as it can take a huge portion of your life and destroy it! Self confession time! lol

Thank you caramello because I am with you. When I was younger, then I took risks that I wouldn't even consider today but not sure if that is due to maturity or just being afraid of what can go wrong. Friend Murphy seems to visit us often, you know "what can go wrong will go wrong" which I interpret to mean "don't take risks". :)

I am half way in between, to be honest. I take risks that are not injurious to my health....for one thing I play the eruomillions....that perhaps is a BIG risk but if you don't take the risk you can't win. When driving I never take the risk of driving under the influence because it could involve others. I think I would describe a risk taker as one who would take that one extra step beyond the safety line to keep himself from getting into a rut. Without taking risks you sometimes miss and great deal of the things that life has to offer.

Hubby always says that I'm an appalling risk taker! I leave everything to the last minute, so that if something goes wrong I have no time to fix it. An example would be cutting my own hair the night before we go out to a big "do"! That's a classic one. If it goes wrong then i just have to look stupid - but then that's feralism for you. Traits I would use to describe a risk taker are: impulsive, adventurous and stupid! I've never harmed anyone else by the risks i've taken - only myself. Serves me right.

I think we have all done something silly like cutting our hair, or something equally inane, just before we are due to go somewhere really important. LOL The key to it is that you have never harmed anyone else by the risks you take, which it sounds like generally refer to you only, never harmed anyone else. Thanks for reading and responding feralwoman. :)

Yeah, i like to take risk. Listen to an interesting example of it: I joined MyLot on 21st october. I did n't know at that time that whether mylot'll really pay me or a spam site like others. I took risk and worked hard and made $13.43 in just 9 days and got paid. Working on mylot and spending a lot of time on mylot was just a risk and i took it and succedd now.

If I have my way, I'd rather play it safe always. However, we all know that risk taking is part of life. Whatever we do, a certain degree of risk is involved. When we invest our money on something there is a possibility we'd lose that in the end, if we marry someone there is a risk that we'd not make it through, etc. I am led to believe though that these are not the kind of risks you are driving at. It sounds to be more like the risks people take when they go climb known to be dangerous mountains like Mt. Everest; those extremists who are throwing cautions to the wind while doing their acts when biking, skiing, skateboarding, motorcycling, etc.; those race drivers who drives at very dangerous speeds; yes, all those risk takers who seem not to matter if they lose their lives at any one point. These are the physical risk takers. They are doing their acts for the fun and thrill of it in the first place, if ever money is involved, it comes in only as a mere second. To become known and popular through their acts is one goal which they may or may not achieve in their lifetime. It is always more of the gratification that they were able to pull it through at such difficult levels. Definitely, I am not a physical risk taker. I am too much of a coward for that. I have a bone construction which is very touchy and attacks, which may have been caused by whatever reason, are exceedingly painful. For me, it's okay if I'd immediately die if I meet an accident, but the problem is, we usually suffer the consequences while recuperating and more, if we never get to fully recover. Such was the case of Christopher Reeve, yet the cause of his accident was in no way those which extremists take. This only proves that risks lie around us at all times even if we will not subject ourselves to high risk exercises.

To a certain we are all risk takers certainly - just by getting out of bed or leaving the house in fact. But there are other people who take what I consider to be extreme risks either financially or physically and it is interesting to see and read people's views on this side of themselves. Thanks for reading and responding to this discussion. :)
