Ind vs Sri Lanka: Super Over Anti-Climax

The third T20I between India and Sri Lanka was a tightly fought affair. Both teams scoring exactly 137 runs at the end of the 20 overs. But the super over was a damp squib. Sri Lanka was bowled out only for 2 runs. And SKY needed just a ball to win it for India. What a turnaround!

I did not even check about the 3rd T 20 I !! I have been more engrossed in Olympics. Plus the 0-2 loss to Sri Lanka means a lot of Spice and Content in terms of what went wrong, why a much more supposedly better team lost and why Sri Lanka won. I read some analysis but well, that's it ! I think after so many T 20s, many players could not switch their mind to the ODI mode.

@abhi_bangal One point which media and many former players are not talking is the emphasis on T 20s and Tests. Somehow in players' minds, ODI has lost a bit of importance especially for the Indian players. Plus in India, we increasingly see totally flat wickets for high scoring runs. In Sri Lanka, even a target of 230 + was tough. Why? Because of turning and slow tracks and their spinners' efforts. Such tracks would have needed the kind of batting that Kohli and K.L.Rahul can do. Yet both could not do much. Then, Shubman Gill also did not succeed much. Not even Shreyas Iyer. I think Ravindra Jadeja would have made a difference here.

Well, it's quiet hard for me to find time to watch my most favourite game - cricket. Actually it's the whole country's favourite game. I read the news and only then I came to know that there's a match between India and Sri Lanka. It was only after I read the news that I came to know what the result of that particular match was. I guess, there was a sense of complacency, especially after India winning the World Cup. They couldn't enjoy the moments and within one week a new series started. This is exaggeration of cricket. And in such cases, it's quite likely that the team that wins the title can lose ensuing matches.

@abhi_bangal Plus the IPL window is going to be extended to 2.5 Months. BCCI makes such announcements with a lot of noise. Then they schedule just 5 to 6 ODIs before a big tournament (3 ODIs vs Sri Lanka which just completed plus just 3 more vs England early next year). So who would be serious for the ODIs?? I think that both the cricket players and BCCI need to re-prioritize. Too much emphasis on IPL may make BCCI and many players jubilant for now but I am not sure if it is good for both Indian and World cricket. By the way, I am delighted to exchange views on cricket so freely with you. I feel as if I am discussing with someone in person!!

Looks like you are a cricket fan like me. And who isn't in India, by the way But as I am still not feeling too well, I didn't have the mood to watch it. But later saw in the news that the match was indeed thrilling, as you said. I checked out the scores and saw that India had indeed performed really well. Great to see our team working so hard and the hard work paying off. And effective satisfying to watch is that the Indian young brigade is now stepping up to the occasion. And not relying on the big players every time. Congrats Team India!

@Dreamerby You got it right on the head. Super overs are definitely thrilling to watch. There might be hardly any super over in the past that might have been so one-sided. But after all, our players are in such great form now, winning international matches has become a child's play for them.

Yes. That was quite heart breaking. I came to know about the series loss only in the news. I couldn't follow my favorite game much this time. It was too hectic for me. However, the good thing, to me personally was I faced lesser grief of the series loss. Yes, it's always a grief when India lose. And that too was a series loss. Obviously, that was not easy to digest.

Yes indeed. They played well. And that's why the match went down to the wire. And I have seen a lot of times that such matches have always proved to be thrillers. And so was this match as well. However, the way the match finished, it looked very ordinary. I mean, I'm an India fan, of course, being an Indian, but still I wanted to see some drama in the super over too. However, that doesn't happen. In the end, it was good for us
