It sure is pretty obvious how films like 300 have evolved over the years. It’s fascinating to see how the "sword and sandal" genre has transformed. From the classic epics like Ben-Hur (I'm not sure if I've heard of, or watched it already) and Spartacus (Oh, I remember a few iconic scenes ) to the stylized, graphic novel-inspired visuals, filmmakers have continuously pushed the boundaries of storytelling and visual effects. The techniques and even the cultural impact has greatly affected the evolution of film technology. The slow-motion battle sequences in 300, for example, are a signature style that CGI helped bring to life, adding a unique aesthetic to the film. CGI made scenes more immersive and visually stunning. It can depict fantastical elements, massive armies and grandiose settings without the limitations of physical sets and props. It often reduces all that clutter to recreate something unimaginable. Practical effects still have a significant place in the film industry. CGI can be expensive, but visual realism is more expensive to achieve with practical effects alone. What are your thoughts on this? Do you have a favorite movie that uses a blend of practical effects and CGI?

I’ll take the old Ben Hur over the stylized gore of 300 any day. I’m just not into that obvious style, even as I recognize that it is a certain kind of art.

Some people don't like gore and to others, the gore of 300 is nothing special and they even want more. That includes me.
