Day 218 – Refuge Joshua 20:1 JEHOVAH also spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Appoint for yourselves cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses, 3 that the slayer who kills a person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there; and they will be your refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 When he flees to one of those cities and stands at the entrance of the gate of the city and declares his case in the hearing of the elders of that city, they will take him into the city as one of them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. 5 Then if the avenger of blood pursues him, they will not deliver the slayer into his hand, because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, but did not hate him beforehand. 6 He will dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the one who is high priest in those days. Then the slayer may return and come to his own city and his own house, to the city from which he fled.’” 7 They appointed Kedesh in Galilee, in the mountains of Naphtali, Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and Kirjath Arba (which is Hebron) in the mountains of Judah. 8 On the other side of the Jordan, by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness on the plain, from the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, from the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the cities appointed for the children of Israel and for the stranger who dwelt among them, that whoever killed a person accidentally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood until he stood before the congregation. God’s names: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Yeshuwa – Jesus God’s character: Refuge Several countries have sanctuary policies in place for those refugees seeking a place to live. The UK, Canada, and the United States are three of those countries with sanctuary policies in place. For the United States, several states declared sanctuary status: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. Sanctuary cities and counties within those states do not need to cooperate with local law enforcement and federal agents when dealing with undocumented immigrants. JEHOVAH told Joshua to set aside six cities as refuge cities for people to flee to when a person accidentally killed another person. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, He became your refuge. You can flee to Him when Satan comes against you to bring harm to you. You can rely on JEHOVAH to protect you from every evil intention from Satan. Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of JEHOVAH, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My Elohiym, in Him I will trust.” 3 Surely, He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. 4 He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will take refuge; His truth will be your shield and buckler. 5 You will not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes will you look and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you made JEHOVAH, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 no evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your dwelling; 11 for He will give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows My name. 15 He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Satan cannot harm you when you place your trust and faith in Yeshuwa. He will protect you and take care of you. If you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, and do not read and study His Word, you don’t know He will protect you as you face Satan’s onslaught. Open your Bible. Read it. Study it. When you do, you will know the power you have in Yeshuwa against Satan. Then He will become your refuge and strength, and Satan will have no power against you. Those who read and study JEHOVAH’S Word, know the power they have over Satan. Don’t let Satan come against you. Open your Bible, read it, study it and you will know peace in your life because Yeshuwa will protect you from Satan. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for my salvation through Your Son. When Satan comes against me, help me remember I can run to You for safety, and You will keep me safe from Satan. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
