The other day it was one big story on social media... how OIL was found in Jamaica! Now I was a bit skeptical.. then the Minister came on and said no oil was found. But people felt he was lying. Now the newspaper is doing its best to dissuade people from believing this hoax. https://www.jamaicaobserver.com/2024/08/27/no-commercial-oil-gas-discovered-jamaica-says-united-oil/ I can't believe people are so easily deceived.

@Rimps85 there is a diff. when this member of the JLP says that about that member of the PNP and some article online which makes something seem true. For example; no member of either Party claimed oil was found in Jamaica. That is pure outside fake

With so many sources popping up every day in this world of Internet, we get more fake news than the real ones. They are misleading and can go viral in no time. I am so much sick and tired of it.

@jaylar Actually it's not freedom but rather misuse and abuse of that freedom. True freedom comes with responsibility.

Me too. Every day... people just invent stories, post them, get hits, no moderation, no question... pure 'freedom of speech'

Odd. What would be the purpose of the hoax? I have not read the article yet.

It was on various sites. Complete fabrication. The writers claimed to have spoken with the oil drillers who fully denied it. As has government. It's like the current crop of frauds... hoax to hoax

I am getting very tired of fake news and conspiracy theories - but l suppose they are both here to stay and must be endured.

It is amazing that people could just invent a story and push it and people believe it.

@Kandae11 I think a lot of people have sites where they get $$ so put up some rubbish that should get hits and fill their pockets. Idiots will read their rubbish publicise it and they'll get more hits. By the time reality arrives, the cheques have cashed.
