This song has been around for YEARS. I am pretty sure it came out when I was in high school. I remember listening to it when I first started driving, at least I'm pretty sure when I first heard it.
I grew up with the same kids mostly from birth till I graduated high school. The majority of my schooling was done at a private Church of Christ school, I went to a church of Christ from birth till I left Portland at 19.
So the chorus of this song echoed the people I knew very well. Our small 30 ish people graduating class was pretty much described by this song. "Everybody just wants to get high. Sit and watch a perfect world go by. We are all looking for love and meaning in our lives."
I graduated with kids who became preachers, I graduated with kids who lost their kids due to drugs. One of the girls who was in our graduating class is actually serving ten years in prison for drugs.
Anyway.
Here's Drug or Jesus by Tim McGraw.

Good message. Don’t care for him. Blame it on the first two songs I heard from him (“Indian Outlaw” and “Don’t Take the Girl”).

I love Indian Outlaw, but it's because there was an inside joke with Chris' grandma. And I can't stand Dont Take the Girl. They overplayed that song till it made my head hurt.

It was very popular when it came out. I just realized I haven't heard it in awhile.
