That wasn't too smart...

This afternoon I went to check if the mail had really come early or I had gotten yesterday's mail this morning. I either got today's mail, or I got no mail today. I went a little further and took a look at the parking lot back there. It was pretty darn muddy, and there was one of the maintenance guys back there trying to shovel mud out of the road. He told me that morning when the maintenance guys went back there, there was actually a large fish that that washed up from the creek onto the parking lot flopping around. He told me they threw it back in, and also that the creek was where all of the mud was coming from. I saw my neighbors, a lady and her three kids (that I had spent part of my Thanksgiving with) heading for the dirt road by the creek across the mud. Now I realize it was dumb, but I headed over to say hello. Well, I've never been very sure-footed, and trying to walk on the mud I kept imagining myself slipping and conking my head on the muddy asphalt. At one point I decided to turn and go back to semi-dry land, but every step I tried to take I was sure I was going to slip. I wound up hanging on to the back of someone's pickup bed wondering what I should do. Thankfully, at that point my neighbor's oldest daughter (I think she's thirteen) came over in her rainboots and asked if I needed some help, and did I want her to scrape a path for me to the sidewalk. I took her up on her offer, and I followed her while she scraped the mud away with her books, making a path. Still walking very carefully, I made it to the sidewalk. Dumb, dumb, dumb... Needless to say, I'm not stepping into that parking lot until it stops raining/the mud has washed away/everything's dry.
