I was doing a long drive yesterday of almost 9 hours back home. It was mostly driving the highway. Almost 70 kms away from home, Google maps showed a detour, in fact a new path to me. Considering the fact there were constructions alongwith the way, I thought it would be better to take the detour.
The new route was through the country side and although it showed cost efficient path, I felt that is not the case. There was gas station for over 50 kms and I was almost going to be out of fuel. After purchasing fuel, it was frustrating see the road was not great with unexpected turns and reroutes. It was unfamiliar area for me, but since I was not in hurry did not panic and took to the path. And finally, after around 50 kms rejoined the highway and reached home.
The new route was not practical route and although not unsafe, it was never better than the original highway route.

This does sound a long drive. Here in the UK a 2 hour drive is deemed reasonably long

I drove 9 hours straight. Did not even stop for food as I was driving alone. I wanted to reach the destination before the evening sets. Luckily I was able to. Would have reached a little earlier had i not been for the detour.
