Just down the road from the smiling peanut that I showed yesterday sits Maranatha Baptist Church. This church in Plains, Georgia is unremarkable, except for a guy who taught Sunday school there. “That guy” was former president Jimmy Carter. Plains is pretty plain. As you can see from the photo, nothing about the church would distinguish it from any other church in a dozen denominations anywhere in the south. This is where Carter and his family worshipped for decades. This is also the place where Plains got to say goodbye to their beloved favorite son last month. The small town ran deep in the president’s veins. PHOTOS: (Left) Church building (Right) Sign in the front yard.

He lived a fulfilling life and till a ripe age. From your another post, I came to know that he served the Navy. And now that he even taught in Church Sunday school for free. He was definitely an admirable character.

@FourWalls Oh! That's interesting to know. A man who stayed humble despite his stature. That's so touching.

When you said Georgia, the first thought that came to mind is the recently late, former Prisident carter. Glad to know I was right. I bet it was cool to see in person.

@FourWalls No. He wouldn't have. I'm glad he got to be laid to rest where he once called home.

Just an unassuming church, no big neon signs. President Carter was a humble man, he wouldn’t have wanted grandstanding.

This Church is built almost the same as the one I grew up in in Bogalusa, LA.

You can almost draw a picture of what it looks like inside, I’ll bet. Me too.
