I told you all about my day yesterday except for the end of my day. After we got off the phone with my brother and sister in law, I decided to take advantage of the nice weather since it had cooled off quite a bit and got busy planting in our garden.
My husband got two rows tilled for me Thursday, so I put in 1/4 a row of corn. It's not much, but it is a start. And that made me happy.
Are you putting a garden in this year?

I was thinking the other day about how much I would love to grow my own food in a garden. I have plenty of space to plant a rather large garden, but my only problem is that my yard is completely shaded/covered by large trees, so it would be hard to grow anything in a garden due to limited sunlight getting through.

@moffittjc Yep, sounds like it. At least you have nice shade and can sit outside when it is hot, hot, hot sometimes or at least with a breeze.

@kareng Not really. My yard is pretty shaded from the time the sun rises to the time it sets. I have mature live oaks, laurel oaks, pines and elms all over my property that make for a pretty dense tree canopy.

No garden here. I"m much too old to deal with that.

No, but I will probably end up planting a few things. The main project is the bush beans, but we will see what else. What do you do to keep the bugs , critters etc. off your stuff? That is a big problem here. I can only spray stuff not toxic to pets since friend's dog runs around outside here.

I'm going to try an oil-spray this year that is homemade and all-natural. There is also a soap spray that you can use. Here is the link:
I didn't have too much trouble with bugs until around August/September last year.

@kareng Thanks, they say just spraying dish detergent on it works, but you would probably have to remember to spray them everyday, especially when it rained.

@snowy22315 Right. And that would take awhile with a big garden. Makes my back hurt thinking about it!

I have never planted vegetables--my Mom always did that. Here I have planted flowers--today I just planted some sunflowers which I hope will come up.

At present we don't have a very small space for a garden in our home. We are planning to renovate our house. We have plans to have a sufficient space for planting flower plants and some vegetables.
