Just saw a documentary about this issue and felt sad about the story. The narrative started with a woman who became a surrogate mother of a Chinese baby. She met a Chinese couple, and she was offered a huge amount of cash; unfortunately, by the time the embryo was inserted to her, the clinic got raided. She was put behind bars for a month then went home to our home country. The recruiter hid him/herself after her arrest and she was not able to acquire the money that was being agreed upon. In our home country, she gave birth and now, the child is already in grade school.
I'm not familiar with the rules with regards to surrogacy but I just found out that after the baby is born, the parents will get the baby and that's the time the cash will be given. There's also a contract for it that the surrogate mother will not have the right nor access to the baby anymore.
As a pregnant woman myself, I can really say it's tough letting go of the baby just by thinking about it. I know it's their choice but just too painful to imagine.

Here in the USA as I understand it unless the contract says different than the surrogate mother has no rights to the child. But I can't imagine in this case after raising that child so long how that could be done. Personally I could not of carried a baby and then gave it up. But there are some people that can do that. Especially after raising the child for that long no way could I give it up and I am sure it would be hard on the child also. I don't see why the Chinese parents could not of found her while she was pregnant or vice versa.

From what I understood, the moment she was arrested, the intended parents intentionally lost contact to her because surrogacy is a huge crime in China. Now, since the child is grown up, the surrogate hopes for the parents to find the child. I don't think they knew the pregnancy was successful.

The child knew, but the lies spread in their town were much believable. Their neighborhood thinks that she got impregnated in China because she was a dirty woman.
I don't think the intended parents were interested in finding the child anymore or maybe they 'hired' somebody else already.

Never an easy thing but for some parents who cannot have children it is great they are able to get a baby,

All this is a terrible story. If I could not have a baby, I´d adopt one.
