Good morning.

And what a rough one it is. George had a sleepless night. I gave him some medicine around six this morning and he got up around eight and is on the couch. I'm having a hard time getting him to wake up for morning meds. And, I have to get his meds in him. I don't want to have to use his tube, but I will as long as I have it, if I have to.I just have to get him to sit up a little more to protect his airway.
Hopefully I can get him to wake up and sit up on his own, but he keeps trying to get me to go away. I understand he's tired, but I don't want him up all night either.

Yeah. I'm concerned he's not getting enough through eating and drinking, so I need to think of what I can do, instead. He doesn't want to take a step backward (he wants the tube out), but if it's going down to slow or he's not getting enough. I just don't know

@kaylachan Maybe mix some protein powder with the foods that he eats?

@kareng We're not there, yet. My best bet is to put it down the tube for now. He eats mostly solid foods like hotdogs, ham or chease. He did, for whatever reason, ask me to get cheese-it while shopping today and we went into the frozen foods for the first time in I can't remember when.

I hope he perks up a bit soon so you can get him sitting up and taking what he needs. Hang in there, you’re doing an amazing job, even when it’s exhausting.

He's fighting me so hard, because he's tired.

@kaylachan One of us will have to break down and run to Aldi's tomorrow. It shouldn't be too bad. We have nothing we have to do Monday, unless I make it to the flea market. I am SO behind in everything!

@kareng I am sure you'll make it work. I am glad George and I went yesterday.

I can understand how that is. We've got a weeks worth of groceries.

He did. He's not 100, but better than yesterday.

Men are so stubborn. I hope you were able to give George his meds.

I always manage. Even if I feel like ripping my hair out, sometimes.

Hello and good morning
Sorry to hear that George had a sleepless night.
Do you have anyone coming in to give you some help?
Would George be ok with other people being involved?
Come to think about it, would you?

I'd be anxious, only because he struggles to communicate his needs at times. His expressive afasia comes and goes, and talking to him is difficult at times. I can handle him pretty well, because I know him well enough that I don't need to communicate, always. When we first got home from the hospital, he mentioned he liked me taking care of him. Problem is, he has moods where he doesn't want me to do anything. That's when I get frusterated. And, a stranger wouldn't neccessarrily get better results if he's in a faul mood or doesn't want to be touched. Since he's a grown adult, he has the right to refuse.
Last time we had to go to the E.R. the nurses were having a hard time trying to figure out if he was refusing treatment. Simply because they couldn't get him to understand what they wanted him to do.

I understand fully as I had basically the same sort of issues with my dad after he had a stroke.
George sounds similar to how my dad was.
Me and Yvonne coped ok because we knew him. Others who tried to help, couldn't.
He didn't want anyone else around.

Are you getting medical help with these new situations? All this seems very difficult for you.

Yes, and no. VA pays for his things, but I'm on my own. I can only force so much.
