Today, I was going to write a poem about our Dark Horse president, James Knox Polk, and ended up writing this instead. It's a bit of a rough draft still, but what do you think of 'Merica? Can you name all the songs referenced in it?
‘Merica
On a Native’s dirt highway,
Redcoats and colonists trade
Beaver fur for smallpox…
another sleepy, dusty Delta day.
Rifled muskets, IEDs, Garlands—
Don’t hesitate.
This is war a-go-go.
Putting a spell on you.
From California to the New York Island,
Now that your big eye have finally opened to
Eisenhower clearing plants and birds and rocks and things—
Humans and animals starve in his splendor—
Choking on his blue, white, and scarlet hypocrisy,
Made for you and me…
We native-born—starving and silenced—in America.
