The first time I read Nineteen Eighty Four I did not believe it would happen. Today, it is reality. I walk on the road and just about everyone is on their phones. It isn't just conversations it is being deceived by hoaxes, falacies, to the extent the 'influencers' own the minds of their subjects. The news from major stations is biased, phrased and presented to create particular impressions. And despite the ability to actually review and research what they are told, it is accepted without pause. Few people are independent, control their own thoughts. Reality is shoved aside and nonsense is accepted without pause.
