For a very long time, beans have been a favourite component of my main meals. I have enjoyed beans with Ugali, Chapatti, Rice and even plantain. They kept me full and energized for long. Lately however, I started experiencing a disturbing heartburn after consuming beans. I had to even consult a physician over the same and after some tests, was given medication. Nothing changed. Since I mostly experience severe heartburns after consuming a lot of beans, I have cut the quantity to quarter. I instead take more milk and peanuts, which has almost reduced my heartburn problem to zero.

Some foods we could eat with no problem in our teens don't sit so well with us as we get older. However , even though beans are healthy, consumption often cause a problem for sone individuals. In fact there is a dietary supplement called Beano which when taken, helps to prevent gas and bloating caused by beans and some other complex carbohydrates.

Probably the gas and bloating from beans caused it. Sometimes how you prepare them makes it worse too—like spicy or heavy dishes. Good call on cutting down the amount, that usually helps!

Heartburn can be a real problem in later life if you don't get it under control now.
I had no idea that beans could contribute to heartburn or cause it.
I am now glad that I do not eat a lot of beans
