Last year, Kenyan Generation Z held a protest that saw them storm into the Kenyan Parliament. They were opposing a finance bill which parliament had passed and which they believed would make life difficult. The police are believed to have used excessive force in controlling them, leading to about 60 deaths. Tomorrow 25.06.2025, the youth will commemorate their last year’s protests and remember their compatriots whose lives were cut short in the protests. Candles shall be lit in front of parliament buildings and prayers held in the planned event.

I hadn't even heard of this struggle. As it turns out, this year's protest saw more violence and between 8 and 16 protesters were killed when police fired live rounds into the crowd. It's as if there are two different accounts of the incident in news stories. One account was that peaceful protests were shattered by law enforcement and no violence was committed prior to the police intervening. The second account states that the protests turned violent and the police had to intervene. Very similar to the media in the US. It's a sad day when no one knows exactly what happened unless they were there. I saw video of peaceful protests and I also saw video of protests turning into riots. Sadly, truth can be lost by the media.
