Babysitting by older people

I am 60+ and while I experience decreased strength in carrying a baby, and have weaker stamina, and mobility, I still gain many benefits from taking care of my grandkids. I get to watch their first steps, first words, and the like, and we develop a lasting bond that money can never buy. I also tend to exercise with the little walks and dances I do when I put them to sleep. What's more, my cognitive abilities are honed, and there's no room to feel alone or lonely. I feel needed. Their mere laughter is music to my ears. My personal conclusion is that babysitting at my age has made me younger and has slowed down my aging process. What about you? Do you babysit your grandkids? If you're not babysitting, what are your thoughts on my conclusion that babysitting at age 60+ makes one younger?

My niece is now older and she's turning nine in July. My mother still taking care of my niece. Keep calm and have a nice day!

As I have gotten older I have less patience with little ones. But for other people it's great

I noticed that too in myself. I have no patience with stubborn students anymore, so I retired early. But with my grandkids, I love taking care of them and watching them grow - say their first words, first laughter, first steps, etc. I miss them when they're not around.

I think it’s a wonderful way to keep your mind and body active. I find that older people are more interactive with children than younger people. So it’s even a more ideal situation for the child.

I have no children. I'm sure babysitting keeps you young.

You’re not just watching your grandkids grow.. you’re growing with them, too.

I agree. My baby is 8 months old and I came home to visit my grandparents who are all well into their 80s. At first I thought it would be too much for them cuz he is still a baby but honestly its been going great. They are requesting he spends more time with them during the day they want to participate in putting him down for naps and feeding and honestly we have been here for a month and all of them seem younger and their BPs improved :)

That's what happened to me. Of course, there are growing-old pains, but the parents are there when I need to rest. So, it's all good.

My grandchildren are all adults now but I do watch my great grandchildren when they come to visit me.

That's great. Perhaps, I won't be able to babysit my great-grandkids anymore. I hope I can,

I totally agree with you. My mom is 69 now and she is active and cool keeping herself busy after her retirement too. And the part of her daily routine is spending some time with my niece everyday. That 8 years old helps her a lot. And she also does counseling for youths. I work with age group from 3 years to 30 years. They keep me active and young at heart.

Yes, definitely. Being young at heart is important to slow down aging.
