Though the IT sector pays its employees their dream salary, the work pressure, the workload as well as the deadlines aren't easy to handle. It's the mental challenge that the employees have to counter apart from the competition in the market. Keeping this in mind, OpenAI is shutting down next week. No this isn't a parmanent shut down.
The intension behind the off days is to give employees time to regather as they are having a grueling 80-hour workweeks. The ChatGPT maker has a tough fight for retaining the top talent in the market. The fight is against Meta, who are having $100 million recruitment offers, which look quite aggressive.
So what do you think about the mentality of the employees? Do they have to give more than what their capacity is, which is why OpenAI is forced to give them an off next week?

Well I used to work 100 hours per week so 80 wouldn't have phased me.
I have no idea about the mentality of the employees at all.
I have no idea about their capacity.
Actually this is a subject I know nothing about

During the youth or the prime phace of a man's career, working like 100 hours for a week doesn't seem to be in any way unusual to him. Though, in the letter part of the life, even he may be surprised as to how he worked 100 hours in a single week.
I have never worked that much in my life in a single week so far. So like you, I also have no idea about how the employees may be feeling if they go through such things.

@Ineeddentures Yeah. Rightly said. There are dozens of them ready. Companies don't even need to find any

I'm afraid that these days there isn't a lot of choice
If an employee doesn't want the hours of work, the company will soon find another who is willing to do it

Everything feels good initially. Someone who is just starting out his/her career, might work 100 hours without complaining much.

And then complacency can probably set in. The redundancy will start playing in the head. And the routine can easily get haywire.

Right. That is why the company might have taken the decision to give all the employees a much-needed break. And I hope this helps them fully.

A senior entrepreneur in India had once talked about working 70 hours a week. He was criticized for this statement. So you can imagine 80 hours. That amounts to slightly less than half the week.

It sounds like the employees are being pushed beyond healthy limits. A break seems necessary
