Isn't Being Orphan a Himalayan Hurdle ?

Today I took Suparna, an orphan girl in my foster family to the Post Office in the railway town 8 kilometres from our children's home for updating her AADHAR card. While for my Indian friends it is a document they need at every step of their life. In short it is not only the proof of our citizenship but it is also the ultimate medium of surveillance on every person living in the nation. It records our name, surname, address, finger print, colour of the eyes, parents' names and address, so on and so forth. Thus you can understand how important this card is for a person living within the nation's boundaries.. Suparna got her AADHAR card when she was 8 or 9 years old. Now she is sixteen. Her card needs updating. I had taken her to the Post Office where an AADHAR office functions. It was nothing short of an ordeal. We stood at the window for two hours. Ultimately, when the clerk came to collect the required forms he told the girl she needed to bring her parents cards. Unfortunately, her parents are dead and she could not produce her parents' cards. I tried to explain to the clerk that Suparna was an orphan and that she lived in our orphans' home. Yet, he demanded a photo identity proof which she could not produce. Her school ID card doesn't contain her photo. We had no option but to return home. However, I thought of a solution on the way. We can paste her photo on her bank passbook and get the bank seal stamped on it. That should be accepted at the AADHAR office. However, we have to make another trip to the post office tomorrow. We must brace ourselves for a time consuming wait at the window. Whatever kind of pain my legs may be punished with, I believe, tomorrow will bring happy news. Tomorrow , God willing, Suparna may get the all important card which will be useful for her all her life.

That sounds like a huge ordeal and such a big space of time wasted for something that should have been so simple for you. Hopefully all went well!
