Lawsuits - The new craze ?

December 2, 2006 4:28pm CST
In todays society we are seeing more and more people filing lawsuits and suing firms for the stupidest of reasons. Its becoming a new craze, people are filing lawsuits for idiotic things and getting money. Lets imagine it all started off with a girl named Lucy. Lucy bought a HOT COFFEE from Mcdonalds. Notice the words "HOT". When Lucy sipped this coffee OH MY GOD it was hot and burned her mouth. Lucy filed a lawsuit for insofficent warning and got some money, Mcdonalds now had to print warnings on all its cups. Lucy has started off a new craze. Now, Doctors are afraid to diagnose people if they have a major illness, incase they get suied for it. Listen to this, on the news today it stated that Christmass decorations and hangings were to be banned in public areas - Health and safety reasons. This is because they may fall on someones head and then that person could sue the government or firm for money. Its getting out of hand. Soon, more stupid laws will be created to get rid of the amount of lawsuits being filed, but then we will all be restricted on our lifestyles ! What do you all think ? Are Lawsuits the new craze ? Do people see it as "easy money" nowadays ?

In other sense thats better for the customers as they would be getting better service and more choices as the company will be more cautious and try to prevent such law suits.

Ah but what if the company does stupid things, like refuses to sell hot drinks in the case they may be sued because they cannot afford to put warning lable onto each cup ? Theres also the chance that more stupid laws can come into play. What if a law is given that people under 18 are not allowed onto the internet incase they see inappropriate adult material, and then their parents sue the internet companies.

I think some people take lawsuits too far. Like the lady who sued McDonalds for having hot coffee, or the guy who sued M&M's because there was a plain m&m in his peanuts. Its insane what people won't sue over. I think some people do see it as easy money and with the popularity of shows like "Judge Judy" doesn't help much with people who want to be on TV either.

I think people are way too eager to sue for anything now. Everytime I look in a newspaper or different publications I see all these different class action lawsuits for different things. I know some lawsuits are legit but there are many that are just people that are money hungry. I know a lady that has made a living off of lawsuits. She has been in three different car accidents. There were none of the accidents that were her fault but she sued for a good amount of money for each. She and her attorney have received a good amount of money. She is currently waiting the outcome of a fourth accident. The part that makes me mad is she had the nerve to complain about the cost of auto insurance. She is one of the people that make car insurance high.

It does seem like people are suing each other or businesses for any little thing. Everybody is willing to do whatever it takes to get a lot of money no matter what. It seems like if you sneeze or something, than someone will try and sue you for that. It is ridiculous and wonder how many cases actually get heard or make it further.
