The Way Food Speaks to My Heart

Sometimes, all I need is a warm plate of food to feel better. Whether it’s a simple bowl of githeri, freshly made chapatis, or a cup of hot tea on a rainy afternoon food comforts me in ways I can’t explain. It’s not just about taste. It’s the memories, the smiles around the table, and the love that goes into preparing it. I believe food connects people. Even a shared snack can bring laughter and stories. What food makes you feel at peace? Or brings back a special memory?

Hey! We usually prepare githeri by boiling maize and beans together until they're soft. Then we fry them with onions, tomatoes, and sometimes add potatoes or veggies for extra flavor. How do you make yours?"

I totally agree with you. Food is not only the basic necessity to survive, it's a way to bond, connect to the soul and make memories. It's a comfort beyond words. I have so many memories around food.

Beautifully said! Food carries emotions, stories, and love. Some of my most cherished memories are tied to family meals, festive cooking, or even late-night snacks with friends. It’s amazing how a simple dish can remind us of special moments and people we care about.

Food really is comfort beyond words. For me, it’s a hot bowl of chicken soup; it takes me right back to cozy evenings at home with family

That sounds so heartwarming! There’s something magical about a bowl of chicken soup it’s like a hug in a bowl. It’s amazing how certain foods can instantly bring back those cozy, loving moments with family. Truly comforting and timeless.

It's not really a food, but orange juice usually leaves me at peace. It reminds me of when I left my home for college for the first time, I would drink it to remember what it was like to be at home. We would serve orange juice with breakfast and dinner all the time, the consistent thing to wash away whatever food I had eaten. It made food I didn't like more bearable, and good food go down sweet. Thus it became a source of peace. Whether things were up or down, I could drink a glass of orange juice, and it would be okay. I think that consistency is the source of peace, whether inside or outside.

That’s such a beautiful reflection. It’s amazing how something as simple as orange juice can hold so much meaning and comfort. Consistency truly does bring peace — and it’s often found in the smallest things.
