The modern gadgets that are used to grind masalas no doubt are quick and easy but nothing like grinding masala using a grindng stone The masala is finely ground and i tdoes not heat up as in those gadgets. This grinding stone was gifted to me by my husband's grand mother and it travelled all the way I have never used it but the maids have. In the photo you see her pounding.

Oh! The taste and aroma of those spices are so much better. Truly said that what we get from modern gadgets is no where close to this. We have one still in my mother's kitchen and it is passed from generations. I have used it

@arunima25 If they do not follow our ways that can effect our health as we will never be happy seeing what they are doing

@allknowing Oh! They need easy ways. The lady who comes in the morning wants a spinning mop to mop instead of traditional way of bucket and mopping cloth. She does a pathetic job. She doesn't even put pressure to spin, the floor stays damp for long . I tried few others, they are lazy too.

My parents have the traditional grind stone but not as big this one in the picture. When we pound on the grind, we will have to make sure that we have cloth below the grind stone in order not to get complain.

We too had it but with electric connection it makes such a fine paste of masala or idli batter or dosa batter and it gives good taste too. No doubt in olden days women's were Soo strong using the heavy grinding stone with bear hand and no help.

I have a blender and also had a grinder. We did away with the grinder as the masala heats up and the blender never grinds coconut as well as it does in a grinding stone. To each their own

Now it has become defunct. It takes a lot of time, energy and musle strength...I cannot imagine how people from the older generation used to do that. My mom has never used a grinding stone though.

Do you ever wish that you had used it. It must be quite old.
