Among the river fishes the mrigel fish is one of the carps of bengal. They are as popular as rohu or katla. They have a lovely taste. They are cooked with potatoes. In the monsoon months they are sold with their eggs. the eggs are fried and eaten as they are also tasty.

Looks like quite a popular dish. Not a fish eater (in fact am a veg person) but I know the love for various kinds of fish in the eastern parts of India.
