Guava Cheese

Why it is called guava cheese is not known as it is far from cheese. I would call it halwa or toffee. I have made it quite successfully many times specially during Christmas. And when we had guavas growing that was a repeat performance. Guavas are made into a paste after boiling and removing the seeds. An equal quantity of sugar is added to the paste and cooked along with a bit of ghee When the stuff leaves the side of the vessel in which it is being cooked, it is poured in trays that are lined with ghee. When cooled they are cut into pieces. Image credit:

See, it’s the word “cheese” that gets me. It makes me think of guava in cheddar cheese. I’m sure it’s actually very good.
