An Indian software engineer working at Google is earning Rs 1.6 crores per annum. To understand 1.6 crores, it's about $186,444.
$5,000 monthly goes toward rent etc making it about $60,000 yearly.
She spends about $56,000 yearly for groceries, entertainment, dining out, and commuting. More than half the salary goes here only.
Now she has roughly $70,000. Out of which she might be paying taxes etc. So what's left after that even when she is working at Google?

If I read the chart rate correctly, up to 250k can be earned tax free in India. That conflicted with another source that claimed the 186k had a liability of 22,320 or a marginal rate of 12%. I saw no information on deductions to the gross income. So if the earner lived in India, the taxes would be zero or 22,320 depending on which site was correct.
If the earner lived in the US, the 186k would be taxed at a 24% rate. Deductions could lower the adjusted gross income. Deductions totalling 83k would be needed to lower the 24% rate.
In either case, the amount taxed is on the adjusted gross income (186k minus deductions) and not the amount after rent, utilities, groceries, entertainment etc.

She spends $56K for groceries, etc.? That's a lot. She doesn't have to worry about paying her bills.

Exactly. The very same thought also had occurred in my mind when I was watching the video. Some amount of saving there, can definitely help her.

Hahaha... I'm really not sure how many of them. But that's quite an interesting question. And I'm amused. Because no one has put a thought on it.
Anyway, I'm not much aware of the details as it was a short video. And it didn't talk much about other things. Yes, she, and almost all of us should follow this rule.
