It Wouldn't Be Summer Without Kids Dying in Hot Cars

Why does this keep happening year after year? They even have settings in your car to remind you to check the back seat before getting out. The police and media warn people all summer to check the back seat. Yet here we are with two needless child deaths just this week: A 6 month year old girl died after her father left her in a hot car for hours. There were no more details about how or why the father left the child in the car. A 5 year old boy died after his mother thought she had dropped him off at daycare, then she went to work all day, and when she went back to pick him up at daycare they told her she never dropped him off that day. She went to her car and there he was dead in the back seat. It's all so preventable. Police recommend keeping a teddy bear in the child seat at all times when empty. Then when you put the child in the car seat, you put the teddy bear in the front seat and if you arrive somewhere and the teddy bear is in the front seat, that reminds you that a kid is in the back seat.
