Louisville is Under an Areal Flood Warning

Whenever I had heard that term before I thought they were saying "aerial" flood warning and I couldn't figure out how it was going to flood the air. But then I researched and it's Areal Flood Warning. An Areal Flood Warning means water rises potentially over low lying areas, some roads and when smaller creeks. It's a gradual rising of water. We have had three huge downpours here in the last two hours. Roads could get covered with water from rain. Just in case you wanted to know more, there are two additional more severe types of flood warnings. River Flood Warnings are issued when a river is predicted to at least reach flood stage, which generally takes a few days after heavy rain. Flash Flood Warnings, like those in Texas and a few other states last week and this week are flooding that happens when a large amount of rain comes down in a very short time period.
