Easy to fix leaking faucet but not

It took 2 days to get our defective gate valve of our faucet fixed. I called the water district twice and a woman replied telling me to wait for the repair man to come over. We didn't know why our faucet kept on leaking. The water keeps on oozing and it floods the foot walk since our water meter is located along the sidewalk. So I temporarily bounded it with rubber strip to prevent continuous water leakage. Late this afternoon two water district repairmen arrived and fixed it. Now leak was gone and the defective check valve was replaced by a new one. Photo: Google

So did the water keep leaking for two days? That must have been a lot of loss, isn't it?

depending on what material the faucet is made of, if it is iron it will definitely rust and then there will be gaps that get bigger.
