Good morning. Some thoughts as we quickly approach the 35th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. As some of you may know, I was one of the first people in the history of my county to make the choice to leave Special Education and be fully included with my friends in my neighborhood high school. Change is difficult and scary, but it is even more so when your disability makes it necessary for you to rely on the support of others for nearly every physical aspect of your life. My wonderful family and so many others believed I would and I could. With Him all things are possible!. Going to Walter Johnson was one of the best decisions that I ever made. My world and life were forever changed because of that decision. My perspectives and views were forever broadened. I hope the same path was made a bit smoother and less scary for those who followed. She could, she would, she did! I did not do this alone. WE did it. I am thankful to the Lord, my amazing family, my fantastic friends, you taught me SO much. Just maybe you learned a bit and had a blast of an adventure along the way. I love you all. From the bottom of my heart, I would not be who or where I am today had I stayed in Special Ed. Thank you.
