While being completely deaf is rarely a good thing in some strange way it is better than hearing. While even a relatively small ear infection could result in my losing my hearing forever and I regularly miss important information because I was sleeping on my right side I can also block ounds. Unlike with full deafness I can block out sounds with one hand and my other arm is free where as that would be very difficult to do so if you need to cover your ears with both. I assume people who are missing that either have seen or are aware of there is an element of envy because they dont have what people normally have. I can only go by keeping my eyes clothes or more convincingly an eye infection, but it seems like it blocks a lot of your surroundings, while the person's body may have adjusted and the person functions well without it, it isnt safe for them to do a pot of things. If you're half deaf you still know what sound is.
