I had the opportunity to read a new mystery before it appeared in stores. All I had to do was write a review. I'm thankful for the chance to read it. Even though this was the 5th title in Deanna Drake's series, it was the first for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And, best of all, the murderer was a surprise.
I'm a devout cat lover, which is what drew me to this series. My only issue, which is minor really, is the formulaic concept of women not taking advice during an investigation and plunging in without letting anyone know where they are or might be. Beyond that, this was simply a joy to read (or listen to since I have an app that does the reading for me). I love antiques, so that also was a draw.
Rebecca's ability to keep Aneksi, Cleopatra's cat, and her grandfather's cursed antiquities a secret serve her well. Most of the time she thinks fast to avoid any revelation that could cause problems. But, like any human, she's not perfect. You never know what's coming before reading each chapter. That's the best part.
You're not likely to be disappointed by this one if you like intrigue, small towns, gossip and not a little supernatural. If you like cozy mysteries, you'll enjoy it.
