Today a old gentleman came to my store. I recalled I had seen him somewhere before. He gave me Rs 1200 ( around 14 dollars), and said he had borrowed some things from me about 7 months ago. Now he had come to repay the money. He lives alone at a village. He is the lone member of his family. I asked him to come in and offered him a chair. He told me he is a vegetable farmer. It took him seven months to save the amount.

Very honest and truthful. I was amazed to know why he had come. The last time I saw a honest poor man - a rikshaw puller many years ago in another town.

It is very good of this person to display such an honesty. Not everyone does it. And yes, in today's world, it is difficult for many to save un sufficient amount. When Governments take steps to help farmers, it is often the richer & the more influential who gain the most. Those with lesser land holdings and who don't earn much, suffer. I feel that the farmers' lobbies in parliament and state assemblies often promote their own interests and rarely their actions help small farmers. May be I am not fully right but I see a class divide among farmers as well.

I agree. The three farm laws were formulated to increase the income of the farmers, but some people with vested interests created severe threats for the unity and integrity of the country. The result was that the government had to roll back the laws. The old man is alone in his family. In old age he can't work hard. He sells his produce to certain people. Whatever he gets is spent on his food. Saving 1200 rupees is not easy for him. Still he managed to save the amount.I can imagine he must have to cut off on his expenses on food. I have assured him of any possible help whenever he needs.

Wow! It is not every day you can meet an honest man. Is he the same man that you mentioned on your latest blog?

One has to admire that, despite how it looks. Blows my mind it took him 7 months to save up $14.

He is a very poor farmer. And there is nobody else in his family. He is the bread earner of himself. As he told me, even the piece of land where he grows vegetables is not his. It is given to him by another man on rent. Therefore it is not easy for him to save 14 dollars.

@mytunemagic Agree. Honest people are generally found among the poor. Despite their poverty they don't follow unfair means to make money.

@Shivram59 And you mostly find them among the poor and the needy. Of course there are dishonest people among them too but the ones, who are genuinely pure are good and honest. They are civilized int their own way.

Don't know. Such honest persons are everywhere in all countries, but don't know if some of them are young. The last time I saw a rikshaw puller who was a middle aged man who had returned my purse I had dropped in his rikshaw. I saw him more than ten years ago.
